I was determined to kitchener stitch it closed. But Marilyn wasn't here. How could I do this?? I used what has become a reliable knitting tool for me. Twitter! I hit up my Twitter knitters and asked for help. Within minutes, I had a handful of helpful sites one of which was on KnittingHelp.com
I watched the video and listened to the instructor and something she said struck a chord and finally, FINALLY, made sense to me. After the initial stitch to begin, there's a rhythm to it. Now you're speaking my language. Knit, slip, purl. Purl, slip, knit. Over and over again. That's all there is to it. That's it? That's what I was sweating over? Umm..yeah apparently that's all there is to it. I guess I just needed something to click and neither the videos, reading nor the vocal instructions made it click. Check this out:

That's right, baby! I did it! I know it may not seem like a lot to most knitters but this is a huge win for me. Thank you to all my knitting friends on Twitter who are always helpful and kind when I ask for help.
I'm KnittingKnoobie on Twitter if you want to be one of my helpers. I can never have enough because I'm always asking for advice!

You have an award to pick up on my blog.
In case You didn't notice alredy.. , . . .
Nice job! Beauteous, in fact! Yes, you deserve a big pat on the back and another cup of coffee.
Yay, great job!
Once you get it--YOU get it..
it makes such perfect sense--its hard to understand why you once thought it hard!
I can do stocking knit grafting with my eyes closed--but i need to concentrate for doing it in ribbing or garter (one side knit one side purl!)
Happy knitting!
Beautiful socks!
Isn't it great when something just clicks! I can kitchener, but I have to have to instructions in front of me every time. I hate it so much that I switched to toe up socks!
Great Job!
so funny... I was just thinking about this today when I was grafting a toe.. I always have to yank out the book.
but once I get started I'm on a roll.
I learned to knit just so I could make sock... so learning to kitchener was part of the deal.. Personally, I think it's just a little bit magical.
Congratulations to you! It's a milestone!
Doesn't it give you the best feeling when you finally "Get It"?
Yay! And btw, you 'got it' last time too! Fabulous sock! I'm very impressed. I think I may be giving you the rest of my sock yarn....
I used the be the same way with kitchener stitch - I'd have to go into a quiet room to do it and I also used the knittinghelp directions. Then it just clicked one day and I got it. I actually like doing it now - well, except I switched to toe up!
Congrats on conquering Kitchener!
It took me a long time to get the hang of kitchener. Even now it still often looks a little wonky! Love the sock, btw!
Great work! I actually love Kitchener. I was so nervous about it, but I've used it several times now and I feel very comfortable with it. Love the way it looks finished.
Your sock looks great! Congratulations!
