I had good intentions. I really did.
I had gone through my yarn stash this past weekend and realized that the only yarn I had excess of is sock yarn. I decided that I was gonna thin the sock yarn herd and put some up on the destash forum on Ravelry.
Yesterday I asked Patrick to start handing me skeins of yarn from my top cubby of my yarn cabinet. The first thing he handed me was Berroco Vintage Wool which I'd won from Michelle of PDXKnitterati. No way I was going to part with a free yarn from a dear person like Michelle. Next!
He then passed me a skein of Brooklyn Handspun Bubble Yum. I'd been coveting some Brooklyn Handspun for a while but it was a bit too expensive for me. I got this skein for about $15 on Rav's destash page a while ago and there was no way I was giving this one up either. Next!
Patrick then gave me a skein of Bare Sheep Yarn in Peach Ice Cream. Now this was a special yarn. This was yarn that Megan had given me for my birthday. It's a lovely yarn that will, one day, be a great pair of socks. I can't give away a gift! Especially one from my sistah from another mistah!
At this point, Patrick's eyes rolled back so far in his head that I heard them click.
The next cake he handed me was J.Knits Rhinebeck colorway made especially for Seaport Yarns. Umm...no. I'm keeping that too.
Now my wise son looked at me with the "Are you kidding me?" look in his eyes. He then took all the skeins of yarn and put them back in the cubby saying "How bout this, Mom. Don't buy anymore sock yarn and start knitting some socks?" Not only is he gorgeous but he's brilliant too. I'm going to take his advice and start knitting some more socks and keep my stash, which I really do love, together.
Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to fund my next trip to Seaport Yarns!

10 Talk to me:
I love it: undestash. When I read that I imagined myself running thru the streets of the city foaming at the mouth a bit with credit card in hand, buying every damn skein of yarn I wanted. It was beautiful, I wish you could have seen it! *sigh* ;)
I rarely even get around to knitting, because I'm so not good at it, and yet I feel your pain. I still have some skeins I bought ages ago and HOPE to one day use!
Can you make me some socks? I'll pay you!!! ;)
I recently got back to knitting after spending too many hours, days, weeks and years in front of my computer. :) The first thing I knit up was a pair of socks for my almost 3-year old granddaughter. Then came a bolero for her the following week. Now I'm almost finished with a pair of fingerless gloves for me. I am hooked again or does one say, "I am needled?" giggle
hahaha this sounds so familiar!
Hilarious! Isn't that just the way? Good for you for standing by your yarn. On a rainy day, or maybe just a "blah" one, it is those precious skeins that brighten up your outlook--and your socks! Get to knitting, girl! I can't wait to see your new sock creations!
It is really hard to destash yarn sometimes - and I think keeping it all is the best thing to do!
I had to laugh - I thought undestash meant that you bought more!
I've gone through the same ritual, but with yarns far less worthy than yours!
Btw, I loved this post. I could read about yarn all day. And often do. [Okay, technically it's usually all night. . . . . Ravelry does have it's evil side.)
There can never be too many cute knit socks in the world. Get to steppin'!
That's a smart kid, that Patrick.
I have given up trying to destash. I feel your pain!
