Blocking With Wires

Contrary to popular belief, I have been busy knitting. I'm working on the afghan for Glenn which is a bit more time consuming that I had anticipated. I have four of the five panels done and have begun blocking.
I have only blocked one item before and it was a beret that I stuck a dinner plate in. This is my first real blocking project and I decided to get blocking wires to do it. After asking all my Twitter knitter friends what the difference would be between wires and pins, I think wires would be best to do this project because it will require seaming and I though the wires would leave it more straight. I can't sew so I'm going to need all the help I can get.
Blocking is like magic! My panels have gone from this:

To this:

Magic, right?
Unfortunately I have to block one panel at a time because of lack of space in our apartment. I swear when the boys leave for college, I'm gonna make that bedroom a yarn room. Think I can get them accepted to college now?
The blanket should be done this week. I'm nervous about the seaming but I'll just cry out for help and I'm sure I'll have some wonderful help from all my knitting friends. Can't wait till it's done!

Oh, Susie, it's going to be beautiful....sure you won't decide to keep it to yourself???!!! I've only blocked one small thing...will have to do some reading about the wires, didn't know that was a possibility.
The one good thing about the weather turning chilly again, is that it keeps me from gardening outside and knitting inside!! :)

Don't worry about the seaming. 1. you're not there yet. 2. It's not as hard as it seems 3. you can always rip back & redo it. We'll be here to help you along the way.

Love my blocking wires! When I finished my Citron recently, I used both the thin, flexible ones for the rounded bottom edge and the larger ones to keep the top straight. It must be Magic!

wires, apart from helping with straight lines, save HOURS! I used to pin all my shawls out on the floor taking 2-3 hours at times. No more!

Love that blue!

Glad the wires worked for you. Did you also stretch out the cables, as you thought you might?

I wanted to reblock something yesterday, but the thought of getting the wire through, just seemed beyond me. (my long blue diamond scarf. The really, too long blue diamond scarf that I should shorten.) I wore it to the reunion thing Annie organized last June -- wrong thing to wear to that it was blazing hot there.
