This is my sweet Gracie Girl. We adopted her when she was just two months old. The boys had always wanted a dog but we told them we wanted to wait till we had a house to get a dog. The day we closed on our country house they asked when we were gonna get a dog. The couldn't care less about they house, they just wanted the dog. We wound up getting her about two months later.
Since the day she came home she's been a part of our family. We'd refer to her as the boys little sister. She's sweet and good. Quiet and loving. Never a problem. She sleeps in the living room, in her bed, but sneaks into the boy's bedroom at night because she thinks she's a kid too and the kids are there so she figures that's her place.
About a week ago she started getting clingy. She yelped once when Glenn was petting her but that's happened before because sometimes she eats something off the street when the boys walk her. She started digging at her hind end so I called a vet in our neighborhood where Glenn took her today. Apparently her anal glands were clogged and have now burst. She's got two abscesses. The doc gave her three shots, one antibacterial wash & gel to be applied 2x a day and antibiotics. I'm so upset that we didn't notice this. Glenn's had dogs all his life and never had this issue so we didn't know what it was. She's lying beside me now, a cone around her head and neck. She's quiet and sleepy. Hope she's gonna be ok.

Gracie is very fortunate to have such caring people looking out for her. You must remember that as soon as you knew something was wrong you sought help for your beautiful dog. She knows she's cared for. I bet the antibiotics have her back to normal in no time. Keep us posted!
aww, poor little thing. Having a hurt heinie is no fun! Hope she feels better soon.
Well I'll be praying for her. My cat Slinkie just went through something life threatening and if we hadn't taken him in I don't think that he would be here now. He ended up having a blood parasite. He was really lethargic and slept a lot but he's okay now.
I hope she feels better soon. At least you found out when you did, not everything can be found early.
dont worry, pooches usually recover well from this
It's awful when the furry kids get sick - but you sprang into action & did all the right things. I think the patient is in excellent hands! Hope she's feeling perky again soon.
Awww, she's such a sweetie. Hope she feels better soon.
I'm glad she's gonna be OK. Not just for her but for the 3 boys & you too. And she looks so cute and comfy in that Elizabethan collar! Are you going to knit a cover for it?
What a cute dog. I hope she is feeling better soon! :)
What a sweetie pie! I hope she feels better soon. Dogs, especially puppies are very resilient. OMG... i just wanna play with her all day long! soooo cuuute! EEeee!
Hi Susie,
Something similar happened to our family dog Meg a few months ago. She was very quiet, wouldn't get up when my parents woke in the morning - usually she jumps up and down like a yoyo each morning. After a few days my mum got home to find the dog was bleeding heavily from her thigh. Apparantly she had had an abscess and the only way she had of letting us know was to burst it herself so she'd bitten right through it. As soon as she'd done this she was back to normal. She had the shots and the cone until the wound healed and now she's back to her usual self - right as rain. Don't feel too badly - you did as much as you could have done and I'm sure Gracie will be just fine.
