Inspiration

More like that lack thereof.
I bought this gorgeous yarn over a year ago at Yarntopia. I actually purchased this so early in my knitting career that I didn't know there were different weight yarns. It's a sock yarn. I bought a sock yarn when I didn't even know you could knit socks. Brilliant. I couldn't resist it though. The colors are lovely and it has this light sheen to it.

It's got a bit more green to it than you can see here but the blue in it is true. I've had it in my knitting cupboard since I bought it. I take it out once in a while to look at it but then I put it back.
I've decided I have to do something with it now. It's been on my coffee table for a few days. At first I was going to make socks but realized that eventually they would wear out and this yarn is much too special for my feet. Now I'm thinking a shawl/scarf/lace kind of thing. But I'm not a lace shawl kind of person. I've been perusing websites and books for patterns to no avail. So I'm waiting to be inspired. And so far? I got nothing. I know it'll come when it does. And in the mean time, my yarn will be in my cupboard and I'll smile each time I open the door and see it there front and center.
Ok I'm gonna go put it away now and wait for lightning to strike.

What about a Damson or an Ishbel by Ysolda? I'm not a shawl type person either but they're great for using up sock yarn... just a thought.

That's how I feel about some sock yarn, too. Too pretty to hide in a pair of shoes, only to get all muddled.

What about a market bag, or a pair of mittens?

I think we all have a ball like you describe! Mine is cobweb handdyed silk. STILL can't think of what the he'll I'm going to make from it after a few years, but I can't bear to part with it.

I love sock weight yarns for lacy neck gaiters, but sometimes I think no one but me actually likes those things. There's always hats, though I imagine you may be a bit burnt out on hats at the moment. (Well done, btw!)

Please post what you ultimately decide to do with the yarn!

Great minds think alike (hi Kristin!)
I too, thought gloves (real or fingerless) or mittens..

or a lacy cowl...(or a not so lacy cowl--a solid (but textured cowl)

You might want to try an Ishbel, it's lots of fun. And you have options in terms of size.

Very pretty yarn! I have a couple of skeins of yarn like that in my stash - and occasionally I do find just the right pattern for them and make them up. Did you see the Yarn Harlot cowl pattern?

Hi Susie,
I LOVE your tag line. It's brilliant. I'm a NYer myself! I live in FL now, but I'll always love NY. You can take the girl out of New York, but ya can't take New York out of the girl!

So I think you would be great to have on board for the It's In the Bag Book Blog Tour!!! Do you have a copy of the book? Do you have any designers in mind?

i second the idea of damson or milkweed. A lot of non-shawl knitters say they are not lace shawl people - then they make one and see that they are so much more - they're not really worn as shawls but as scarves. I reckon you should give it a go!
