This Is Knot Funny!

I wound this into a cake and still got knots. I pull from the center. Am I doing something wrong? This happens often and Glenn has quit being my untangler so I'm screwed. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. A good untangler in the Manhattan area would be fine too.

OH NO! When I have a big tangled mess - I try to start untangling loosely from both ends. Sometimes that helps a lot. But when a hank gets all tangled - it can be maddening to untangle. Di you wind from a swift? Can you put part of it on the swift and untangle from there so that it doesn't tangle more?

Uggg, my mom is the one who usually untangles my messes. She starts from both ends to find the easier path.

Might I suggest creating a simple centre pull BALL instead of a cake. I never have probs with my centre pull balls.

I'm perplexed as to why you said this always happens to you. Does it look normal when it's a cake? Does it only start to get ridiculous when you start using the yarn?

I make bad tangle cakes too. Most often this happens during baseball games. But I've also come to find out it may be due to the fact that I don't have a whirly giggy thing and I wind my cake from my knees.

So, do you watch baseball or wind from your knees? Or are those my personal problems?

What is a cake of yarn? I've never heard that before...

I can't help, but I can commiserate! My silk lace weight never did all make it to a ball. Silly, knotty, naughty yarn. But at lace weight, there is plenty of it without that tangled bit.

That sucks! (btw liked the title of your blog post LOL)

Yes I would echo the same are you using a swift when you wind your yarn into a center pull/cake?? If not that may make the difference.

I have had knots happen from my cakes b4 too, but nothing that bad just a little tug and they fall right out.

If you are using a swift when winding I would just say take your time in winding, and being careful how you pull it off the winder ensuring you don't jumble the center in the process but making it a smooth clean pull of the winder.

Hope all of our suggestions help and you can get untangled soon!

Was that malabrigo you were winding?? Pretty either way! :o)

what a mess! I think it happens to all of us. It's beautiful yarn! I hope you got your knots out.

Non-wool usually falls. Use the outside. I also make my own center pulls sometimes, just with my hands, the Stitch 'n Bitch book explains how to do that, but frankly I find it easier to just use a regulah ball.

And I had a lovely 6 hours untangling that for you! Have any more? Bring it ON, girl!

I nearly always pull from the outside of a cake, just to avoid moments like that.
