Outdoor Knitting

This is where I spent my day yesterday. It's Madison Square Park and it's just a few blocks from where I live in Manhattan. Al and I went there yesterday for a day of outdoor knitting, now that the rain has finally stopped. We were so glad we went and then Mark joined us so that made it all the better! Mark is a friend of ours from The Point. We have such a great time with him and were so glad he came by. We chatted and knitted and laughed. REALLY loud. The sun was out, the flowers were in bloom and the grass was being cut so the sights and smells were overwhelming. I didn't get a lot of knitting done, but I had a great time. And I got sunburned.
I started the second sock and almost had a panic attack. It was smaller than the first. Same exact pattern. It was all I could do not to have a full blown cry. I just hoped that it would stretch with the weight of the yarn as I continued knitting. Which it has, thank goodness. They're about the same size now. Gigantic. Mark and Al looked them over yesterday and told me I was doing a great job because they important points, gussets, were very well done. That made me very happy. Even if the sock is big enough for Shaq. Thanks to Barbara Kerr and, as always, Allyson for showing me how to wrangle these sticks and string. I'm very lucky to have such great mentors as I poke my way through all this.

I work right across the street from that park and it is a great park to knit in. That is if you can find a bench to sit on during lunch time.

I think knitting mismatched socks is a right of passage that all sock knitters must go through. Live & learn.

Hey its your first pair of socks (hopefully more to come). Any time you do something for the first time it is a learning experience, my first sweater is going to be interesting and I will have to document it, if for nothing else than for comic value that I am sure I will find in it later.

When I get back from Buffalo, I will have to join you. I think I really miss listening to the three of you laugh together. For those of you who havent had the pleasure, its LOUD.

I will join you all one day... I hope soon!

My first pair of socks came out great. However, the second, which I jsut finished (thanks to the inspiration of your blog) don't stay up, they're slouchy socks that aren't intended that way. That's what I get for trying to be cute and account for calf size. I should have ignored it. Of course, if the book I was using which claims to be geared to the new sock knitter had mentioned negative ease.....
